what is happening
California Assembly Bill 1043 (shortly “AB 1043”) states that:
This bill, beginning January 1, 2027, would require, among other things related to age verification with respect to software applications, an operating system provider, as defined, to provide an accessible interface at account setup that requires an account holder, as defined, to indicate the birth date, age, or both, of the user of that device for the purpose of providing a signal regarding the user’s age bracket to applications available in a covered application store and to provide a developer, as defined, who has requested a signal with respect to a particular user with a digital signal via a reasonably consistent real-time application programming interface regarding whether a user is in any of several age brackets, as prescribed. The bill would require a developer to request a signal with respect to a particular user from an operating system provider or a covered application store when the application is downloaded and launched.

tl;dr: AB 1043 wants to enforce kernel-level Age verification by enforcing operative system providers to provide an accessible interface at account setup that requires YOU (the user) to state YOUR age.
yes, they want to enforce age verification on your very OS. (hilarous)

this won’t take effect until 2027 (january), but you already got a fix for this incoming hell.

Ageless Linux is a registered operating system under the definitions established by the California Digital Age Assurance Act (AB 1043, Chapter 675, Statutes of 2025). We are in full, knowing, and intentional noncompliance with the age verification requirements of Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.501(a).
(in fact, it’s not an operating system but a bash script that adds a human-readable notice that states that your OS won’t comply with this bullshit.)
how to install agelesslinux?
refer to https://agelesslinux.org/download.html in order to install agelesslinux. note that you still don’t need agelesslinux.

this installs the ageless linux identity and refusal notice. when there is something real to remove, this script will be updated to remove it.
why am i focusing on hating systemd?
well, i hate everything related to this fucking shit, but systemd has been fucking things up since the day Lennart Poettering had an unprotected gay sex with Kay Sievers and it resulted in the creation of such bullshit.
